Job Summary

We are seeking an Senior Scientist to join our Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) team. This pivotal role will focus on technology development, including TCM capsule and pellet formulations, foot patches, and TCM-based contract research. The ideal candidate will also support claims for existing products and engage in new technology research and investigation. 

Key Responsibilities

• Technology Development: Lead the research and development of innovative TCM formulations, including capsules, pellets, and foot patches, focusing on efficacy and consumer safety.
• Contract Research: Conduct TCM-based contract research to support product development and enhance scientific validation.
• Claims Support: Provide scientific expertise for claims related to existing products, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• New Technology Research: Investigate and explore new technologies that can advance TCM product development, staying ahead of industry trends.
• Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with collaborators, including academic and industry partners, to facilitate research and development initiatives.
• Team Leadership: Mentor and coach new team members, helping to develop their skills and integrate them into the team effectively.
• Documentation & Compliance: Ensure the accuracy and compliance of all scientific documentation, protocols, and reports in line with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Education: PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Pharmacognosy, Herbal Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences).
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in technology development within Traditional Chinese Medicine or related herbal products.
• Leadership Skills: Proven experience in mentoring and managing team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of TCM principles, formulation development, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, data-driven approach to research and product development.

About the Role

Routine Operations (60%)

Management Support Team
- Lead the team to ensure smooth and timely operations with accuracy and efficiency on agency leader challenges/appointment, external awards application, external/agency sponsorship, Agency Share Purchase Plan, Agency Enhancement Program, DD Growth Bonus etc.
- Analyze the trend of the above program to provide insight for further improvement on program efficiency and operation efficiency to management
- Oversee appeal management for agent appointment/external awards, recommend appeal decision for management endorsement as well as to prepare & review related statistics for management review
- Monitor the operation of Agency sponsorship to ensure proper approval is sought and overall expenses is within annual budget
- Support DD meeting in control of the communication materials to ensure management direction has been communicated in an efficient and professional manner
- In charge of the annual review exercise for agency manuals to liaise with all relevant departments to ensure timely update and communication with agency
- Ensure agency enquiries via email to the agency enquiry mailbox are responded timely
- Deal with business partners to support agency communication and smooth operation

Agency Operations Team
- Lead the team to provide timely, accurate and quality administrative support to agency, including but not limited to agency administrative staff code maintenance, AIG Protector Enrollment, MDRT registration etc. as assigned by management.
- Lead the team to take up appeal management for agent benefits, conventions & contests; recommend appeal decision for management endorsement as well as to prepare & review related statistics for management review
- Oversee the handling of agent’s related complaints as well as HKFI/ IA/ MPFA correspondence, etc. and liaise with Agency Business Development Teams and related departments on agency compliance related tasks/case investigation and to maintain case record and report
- Supervise the team to provide office administration support to the department

For both Management Support Team and Agency Operations Team

- Participate in company/agency events/ special task force/projects/committees as assigned with regards to agency business development’s initiatives and business/agents activities, etc.
- Manage and coordinate the projects assigned by immediate manager
- Perform job rotation when and as required
- Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned by immediate manager in order to meet business requirements

Agency Admin Transformation (20%)

- Actively take part in departmental transformation project, review and provide recommendations to streamline and eliminate non-value added workflows/ procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy as well as assist to establish documented workflows/procedures

Staff Management (20%)

- Manage and supervise subordinates’ job performance, provide guidance, coaching & training to them; skill transfer to uplift their skills and to groom them to ensure business continuity
Others:
- You are required to obtain relevant license if your job involves in regulated activities
- Ensure team members who perform regulated activities have obtained the relevant licenses and fulfilled the licensing requirements

Education & Experience

• University graduated in any discipline
• Minimum 8 years working experience in insurance industry, preferably in areas of agency administration and/ or sales support, with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in managerial position
• Previous exposure in project management or other functions in an insurance company is definitely an asset.

About the Role

Reoles and Responsibilities:

• Perform risk assessments on a wide range of financial risk topics such as strategic asset allocation, internal capital and solvency management, inforce management, product and reinsurance pricing.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback while working with local BU risk officers to develop risk mitigation strategies which are practical and commercially sound.
• Develop and/or review standards, guidance notes, templates and other governance “tools” to support financial risk management processes in local BU’s.
• Risk Appetite Statement & Tolerances: Primary accountability for the development, maintenance, and monitoring of the Group’s Risk Appetite Statement, principles and tolerances for the Group.
• Own Risk Solvency Assessment (“ORSA”) & Recovery Plan: Support the development of the annual ORSA and Recovery Plan for AIA Group, and identify potential business actions deriving from these analyses.
• Stress & scenario testing for capital planning purposes: Develop and apply the Group stress testing framework to monitor the Group’s solvency and financial strength both on an actual and prospective basis.
• Analyze and identify key risks of inforce portfolio, to generate value-adding insight for risk management purposes.
• Compile, review and provide expert commentary on insurance risk metrics and watchlists, working to the standard of reliability and clarity which is required for submissions to the Group Financial Risk Committee.
• Participate in financial risk-related ad-hoc projects based on senior management requests or external developments.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years’ actuarial experience in a life insurer/reinsurer
• Significant practical experience in the fields of life insurance/reinsurance capital management or product pricing or internal economic capital model
• Fellowship in a recognized international actuarial professional body
• Assertive, self-motivated and customer-orientated
• Sound problem solving and decision-making skills
• Strong leadership skills with the confidence to challenge consensus views
• Good communications and interpersonal skills
