SUMMARY

We are currently seeking to add to our pension consulting team.  Based in Hong Kong, this role will oversee the delivery of client work and support business development activities.  You will take a proactive approach at supporting business development and client deliveries for both existing and prospective clients. As a Senior Pension Consultant, you will provide end-to-end advice to clients on the retirement programs they offer to their employees.  You will help clients define strategy, design retirement plans, manage plan finances, meet regulatory requirements and manage risk.  This person will be a recognized subject matter expert and a senior individual contributor who manages large-scale projects, coaches team members and solves complex problems.  The growth opportunity includes wider intellectual pursuits and profile-building through collaboration with stakeholders, both regionally and internationally within Mercer.

POSITION SCOPE

We will count on you to:

• Be the lead consultant responsible to deliver calculations/ comparative analytics/ survey findings/ pension related advice with close management of team effort with high quality and in a time efficient approach.
• Act as the subject-matter expert in focused retirement topics.  Understand appropriate Mercer methods and tools (or recognized equivalent) in coaching junior members in completing assignments. 
• Serve as a lead consultant on medium and large clients and/ or second on jumbo clients.  Work on cross-geography retirement teams and projects.
• Attend to day-to-day enquiries from clients or internal counterparts in a responsive manner.
• Contribute to research and intellectual property regarding pension systems in Hong Kong, Greater China and Asia, as part of forming Mercer’s views on pension trends.  You will be able to apply your findings to arrive at recommendations or observations to add value to our clients.
• Digest and keep up with local regulations that impact on the financial planning industry in relation to investment and retirement matters, including MPF and ORSO ordinances in Hong Kong.
• Participate as a significant team member with respect to sales by driving new business proposals and extending the range of services provided to retirement and other lines of business’ clients as appropriate.
• Interact with internal local and regional team members to contribute to collaborative culture and demonstrate proactive behaviour.

What you need to have:

• 10-12 years of proven experience in the pension consulting / advisory industry, with client-facing responsibilities.
• Experience in analytical coverage and dealing with various pension products and pension structures. Self-starter with ability to seek out and learn more on pension procedures under different regulatory regimes.
• Sound project management skill, in planning ahead the different milestones to achieve and execute in a timely manner with strong commitment on quality.
• Strong analytical and technical skills. Comfortable with conducting comparative analysis, managing large amounts of data in an efficient manner.  Ability to articulate complex and technical information in layman and concise ways through written and verbal communication.
• Good command on MS Office applications (MS-Excel, MS-Word, Outlook). Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Strong language capabilities in English. Cantonese and/ or Mandarin would be an added advantage.

• Completed or close to completing professional exams in actuarial or similar disciplines.

About the Role

Responsibilities:

• Perform experience studies to gain insights from claims and lapse experience.
• Understand market, regulatory and competitive trends and their developments, produce insights to the business for the implications.
• Conduct technical research for product development initiatives.
• Develop Business Line strategies and plan with Business Development and deliver Business Line strategies and initiatives base on data-driven insights.
• Cascade & manage strategies and targets through Business Line unit scorecard and team target setting.
• Manage and track team performance and effectively communicate areas of improvement.
• Research and benchmark best practices to seek new ideas from inside and outside the unit / organization and identify innovative solutions
• Analyze market / industry trends and changes, utilize visualization tools to synthesis data and draw conclusions to make recommendations for senior management.
• Support Business Line strategies implementation and participate in ad-hoc projects.
• Contribute to developing a continuous improvement culture across Business Line Operations. 

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or equivalent;
• Insurance/Reinsurance pricing experience of the Hong Kong market is required.
• Proven commercial and technical skills in Health & General Insurance product design and pricing.
• Strong communications skills

• Produce monthly management reports and participate in month-end management review process

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field

The Financial Coach and Training Specialist will coordinate and provide financial counselling/coaching services.

• Provide individual financial training for using tools such as detailed financial assessments and budgets to provide strategies for saving and credit building.

• Provide financial trainings in individual and small group sessions

• Provide individualized financial counseling sessions (including both initial and follow-up sessions) and achieve client outcomes..

• Support the creation of new workshops in budgeting, banking, and credit.

• Ensure that all training requirements are met for participants in budgeting, cash management, savings, and credit building. Ensure that participants complete the required training.

• Increase participant knowledge of financial services and credit offerings.

• Explore into financial services hiring and train the staff

• Helps create financial plans to achieve their goals.

• Answers financial questions and addresses concerns.

• Coaching on building long-term relationships.

•   Analyzes market and economic trends.

• Stays up to date on relevant government policies.

• Maintains client confidentiality.

• Collaborates with other financial planners.

•  Undergraduate degree preferred, or a combination of equivalent years of education and related work experience.

•  Experience with financial education, counseling, and coaching.

• Demonstrated understanding of personal finances, particularly in the areas of budgeting, asset building, and credit building. Previous work experience in teaching basic financial literacy is preferred. 

•  Ability to effectively coach clients through the nuanced process of family budgeting, goal setting, asset and credit building.
